January is a tough month. Once you get past the magical winter wonderland of the holidays, all you are left with is cold, ice and more snow. It’s no wonder the most depressing day of the year, (Blue Monday) falls in January. Despite the dreadful cold , winter can definitely have its perks. Mostly, it’s the perfect excuse to bust out all of your coziest sweaters, blankets and socks, cup of tea or hot chocolate and settle in for a quiet night in, binge-watching your latest Netflix obsession, or reading a good book.
Here are some of my cozy winter essentials:
I think this is priority number 1 for me when it comes to winter essentials… a good ol’ pair of warm, cozy pants. It might not be the sexiest look in the world, but comfort is key.
I feel like over-sized sweaters and comfy pants go hand in hand, and are the ultimate in comfort. It’s like being wrapped up in a big blanket all day long.
Candles are an essential any time of the year, but in the winter, they definitely add to the cozy ambiance. I tend to prefer warm, scents like vanilla or cinnamon which, I think, makes any space feel all the more inviting.
Pillows and Throws
A lovely fleece throw and a pile of pillows are just the ticket for a cozy atmosphere in the middle of January.
Don’t get me wrong, winter is great for outdoor activities too if you are in to that kind of thing. Skating, skiing, snowshoeing, all great fun! But when the weather dips below, let’s say -25 degrees Celsius, it is pretty unlikely that I am going to want to spend too much time outside. Knitting, crocheting, practicing piano, reading, or baking tend to be my go to’s for indoor activities. I mean, really, who doesn’t love the smell of freshly baked bread or cookies filling the house?
