My January Favourites

As January comes to a close I thought I would share some of my favourite things this month!

Please note that I am in no way affiliated with any of these companies, I just liked their products and wanted to give them a shout out!

The Body Shop Hemp Hand Cream

Over the holidays I picked up a seasonal sales job at The Body Shop for a little extra cash.  While I was there, I fell in love with a lot of their products.  One in particular is the Hemp Hand Cream.  Winters in Canada are cold AF, and this year has felt especially brutal.  Cold winters mean dry skin, and there is nothing worse than dry, cracked hands.  The Hemp Hand cream is honestly a godsend. A little goes a long way, but it has a great, creamy texture.  In comparison to some of the other Body Shop products, it might not smell quite as nice as you’d hope.  I find it smells a little earthy, but it honestly doesn’t bother me that much when I see the results.  My hands have been baby soft all winter so far.

David’s Tea Valerian Nights

I’m a big fan of a nice cup of tea before bed and I’m also a bit of a David’s Tea addict so when I saw that they had a Valerian tea, I was all over it.  For those of you who don’t know, Valerian is a natural sleep aid, and for me, it honestly works wonders.  I used to have a lot of trouble sleeping, but switching up my nighttime routine and looking in to things like natural sleep aids have made a huge difference in my sleeping patterns.  Anyway, that’s a bit off topic.  The Valerian Nights smells great, tastes great and I  found myself looking forward to a nice cuppa before bed.

The Crown

Season 2 of “The Crown” premiered on Netflix in early December, but I didn’t actually get a chance to binge it until the holidays and a few very cold days in January.  I was obsessed with season 1 and season 2 was no exception to that obsession.  Historical dramas are kind of my jam.  I majored in History in University and it has always been a bit of a guilty pleasure.  I got sucked in to this show and couldn’t stop watching.  Definitely one of my favourites this month.

Young Elizabeth: The Making of a Queen by Kate Williams

After binge watching The Crown, I was super interested in the current monarch so I picked up Young Elizabeth: The Making of a Queen, by Kate Williams.  It touches on Queen Elizabeth II’s early years leading up to her father’s death The British Monarchy has always fascinated me, and this book was written in a way that kept me super interested and wanting to know more, so two thumbs up from me!

Jamie Oliver’s 5 Ingredients Cookbook

I bought 5 Ingredients for my sister for Christmas and after flipping through a few of the recipes decided I needed to get it for myself.  I LOVE this book.  The recipes are quick, easy and flavorful considering how few ingredients are required.  So far, all of the recipes I’ve tried have been a hit.

Anastasia the Broadway Musical

Have I mentioned that I love musicals yet?  No? That’s weird… Haha!  No, but in all seriousness, I am a little late to the game on this one.  I was a fan of the 1997 movie version of Anastasia, it used to be the movie I would watch whenever I was home sick, but for whatever reason, I was skeptical that it would translate well on stage.  I was wrong.  The soundtrack is wonderful, Christy Altomare, who plays Anya/Anastasia on Broadway is delightful (I follow her on social media and am definitely a fan), as are the other cast members.  I even bought the score because there were too many songs I loved and thought might be useful for future auditions.  Anyway, the soundtrack has basically been on repeat for the past 3 months, so it definitely made my favourites list.

Over Sized Sweaters

Who doesn’t love being wrapped up in a big cozy sweater?  After the holidays, the very last thing I want to wear are tight fitting clothes.  Plus, it’s cold outside!  I’m a big fan of the over sized trend lately mostly because it means comfy, warm, loose fitting clothes, and that I can get on board with any time.
